The Boys at
McCovey Cove, before watching the
Giants beat the Padres in
July, 2003

TJ
and Robbie visited me in
Rome in December. We went to the usual tourist places together,
including the ancient Forum.
►► On
Christmas Eve, we went to
midnight mass
at St. Peter's
Basilica in the Vatican,
where Pope John Paul II said Mass.

TIM J
"TJ"
EMERT |
ROBBIE DAVID EMERT KNOTT
|

TJ graduated from
UC Davis
in 2001 with a degree in Psychology (and a minor in "party").

He amused himself with his interesting friends in SF for a while but
he did not want to hang around waiting for graduate school and for the
moribund job market to offer him something of interest.
So he hit the road and traveled through Asia for six months in 2003-2004.
 |
He was in China
for a couple months with a friend.
 |
(Ask him about the thrill of
his stay in a Shanghai hospital with appendicitis!!) |
|
 |
He was in Vietnam in December
 | riding like crazy on a motor scooter |
 | and went SCUBA
diving in
Na Trang |
|
 | Then
on
to Laos and Cambodia,
where life is still simple |
 | He was in Bangkok,
Thailand for the New Year.
 | and went SCUBA diving in Ko
Somui |
 | earned Advanced SCUBA
cert |
 | and got in a wreck
on a
motor scooter |
 | and
went to a wild full moon
party on the beach. |
|
 | He spent a few days in
Singapore
 | staying at Raffles, Mark
Twain's favorite Singapore hotel |
|
 |
After a couple weeks of playing in
Australia, he went to |
 |
New Zealand. |

Robbie's
European
AdventureS
Robbie was a foreign
exchange student in 2004-2005, in
Bourbourg,
France (in the north,
near Calais) .

He took the Eurostar through the Chunnel to
stay with me in London for a few days in October, 2004. We visited the
Tower of London (crown jewels and cruel
torture) and the Saatchi Gallery (extraordinary
modern “art” installations); Robbie saw his first live theatre production (Phantom
of the Opera) and had his first pint of British ale (at Princess
of Wales pub); after evensong services at St. Paul’s
Cathedral we saw a full moon rise over the
Tower Bridge and after watching the heavily armed guards at 10
Downing Street we saw the Trooping of the Colour at the Horse Guards Parade;
and at dinner late one night (Tex-Mex food at the Texas Embassy) two
Beefeaters in full uniform (and armed with big spears) stopped by to eat.

←TJ went surfing in
Bali
in 2004
and got a huge tattoo.

Then on his honeymoon in
Thailand
in 2007, he spent four days with Tung, a master tattoo artist, getting it
shaded and colored.
Don't ask me why,
you have to ask him.

For some reason,
traveling is in his genes. After graduating from Banff High School last
September, he waited until January for an extended
visit to Europe. Various sightings in Brussels, London,
Berlin and Prague were reported by local authorities before he returned in
June.
Robbie
was 20 on October 18, 2008.
Robbie
lives with his mother, Pamela (I met her in Katmandu long ago), in Banff, Canada, a little resort town
nestled high in the Canadian Rockies.
He is a great
basketball player and, except for occasional concussions, enjoys rugby.
|
 |
He got married on January 21, 2007 and he went to
Thailand with his wonderful new wife, the former
M. Kiara "Kia" Hay. |
 | They now live in Richmond, California, enjoying their new life together. |
|
In
September, 2008, he started studies at the Okanagan campus of the
University of British
Columbia, in
Kelowna, BC, on the west slopes of the Rockies.
