On February 29, 2004 (Leap Year!), I took the leap and quit work after practicing labor law for more than 20 years.  I rented my house out to friends and I moved to Europe to see the sights and meet the people and try to learn something about them ..... and about me.  I rented an apartment and stayed one or two months in each city, allowing me to walk a little slower, to see and taste a little more and to enjoy myself immensely.  Almost two years later I finally returned to San Francisco, my heart full of wonder and my mind full of memories.

Where in the world was Tim??

Christmas was very special for me in 2004 because TJ and Robbie visited me in ROME for the holidaze.  we enjoyed the decadent delights of the city and went to

 Christmas Eve Midnight Mass

with Pope John Paul II.

With photos to show I was there.

GIANTS IN EUROPE

Marvelous Morocco

The Marrakech Express took me from Tangier to enjoy a couple days in magical Marrakech.  Then I visited Casablanca (a waste of time) and spent four days in the fantasy of Fes, the ancient imperial city.  Then back to chaotic Tangier for a couple days before catching the ferry to Gibraltar.

Basking on the beach in Nerja, Spain

October 1 to 31

On Spain's sunny southern Costa del Sol, I relaxed on the beach and worked on my tan.  The weather warm, the beer cold, the views fantastic and the people friendly.

Krakow

June 29 to July 13

Krakow is the home of Pope John Paul II, Oscar Schindler's factory and the ghetto where Spielberg shot the film, a medieval castle with a dragon's lair, classical old buildings unchanged since the Renaissance surrounding the biggest town square in Europe, friendly people, a leisurely pace of life, great beer and fantastic vodka

Berlin with the Birminghams

In Berlin (June 21-29), I spent a few days with my good friends, Cynthia and Rob Birmingham with adorable Alanna and jumping Jack.  They were visiting from San Francisco because Rob heard good things about the innovative architectural wonders rising as Berlin rebuilds and reunites.  We enjoyed some wonderful dinners in the chic Berlin restaurants and wandered around marveling at the striking new buildings and the historical sights that made Berlin (in)famous in the last century.  One fine day Andrew the Aussie was our entertaining and informative tour guide.

Road Trip through France with Robbie

We drove through France, from the English Channel in the north to the Rivera in the south, spending several days in Provence and the French Riviera.  Robbie has grown and matured in the past year as a student in France and it was, as always, a delight to spend time with him.
