PRAGUE,
CZECH REPUBLIC
(September 1 to 30)
I had a flat in
a historical building only a couple
blocks from
Wenceslas Square
with a great view of the spectacular
Prague Castle; took day trip visits to special Czech
towns - Kutna Hora, Karlovy Vary and Cesky Krumlov;
and stumbled through an amazing road
trip to the
Capitals on the Danube River:
Bratislava, Slovakia;
Budapest, Hungary;
and
Vienna, Austria.

Prazsky
Hrad (Prague Castle) and Charles Bridge dominate the center of Prague.
A castle has been on this hill since the 9th century. |
The
castle is just as dominating at night, its lights dancing on the Vltava
River. This was the center of the Holy Roman Empire. |

Tourists are amazed at the architecture in Prague, with
well preserved medieval and art nouveau predominating. |
Church of Tyn on the Old Town Square is 13th century
magic. |
Municipal Hall is one of hundreds of art nouveau
buildings. |
Dancing Towers, a Frank Gehry building, shows modern
Prague. |
Human bones decorating the Ossuary show the macabre past. |

Magyar Hell's Angels on Horseback |
Bratislava, Slovakia
was under the totalitarian heel of Communism for decades
and is stuck in another time.
. |
Prague's
Museum of Communism is between a casino and a
McDonald's. Lenin is spinning in his grave. |
In bustling Vienna, ersatz Mozarts compose concertos while
waiting for a streetcar.

While the chimney sweep says,
"Chim
chim cheree." |
